All of us at Hayle Town Council are incredibly saddened by the sudden passing of Councillor John Pollard. John devoted his life to the service of his community whether it was as a teacher or in his work as a councillor for Hayle Town Council and as Leader of Cornwall Council.
The list of John’s accomplishments is extensive; from Chairing Harvey’s Foundry Trust and the Steering group of Hayle Area Plan Partnership to being a governor at Connor Downs Primary School and a Trustee of Hayle Pilot Gig Club. John’s passion for the town where he lived most of his life provided him with the determination to see so many projects through to fruition and got him involved in a multitude of areas that are simply to numerable to list but demonstrate a love for Hayle and the people that live and work in the town.
John served as a councillor for Hayle Town Council since 1982 including two years as Mayor. He also worked as a councillor for Cornwall Council between 2009 – 2021 where he was leader for 4 years.
John’s extensive knowledge and memory is something that could always be relied on when exploring an issue or problem. His diplomacy and ability to have difficult conversations that cut straight to the heart of issues is something that we will sorely miss along with his wonderful sense of humour and dry wit.
Our thoughts are very much with John’s wife and children along with his many friends at this terribly sad time.
