Basic Life support
Check for DANGERS to yourself, the casualty and any members of the public nearby.
Check for a RESPONSE from the casualty by asking a question, then tapping lightly on the shoulder.
Check the casualty’s AIRWAY. Is it clear or obstructed? Open the airway by head tilt and chin lift.
Check if the casualty is BREATHING for 10 seconds. If breathing is absent or not normal phone 999 and ask for an ambulance.
Start CPR as soon as possible.
Ambulance Control will talk you through the process of doing CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) and will direct you to the nearest PAD (Public Access Defibrillator). This is essential as an ambulance will be sent to your location and they will also provide you with the code to obtain access to the PAD.
Once the defibrillator has arrived, turn it on and follow the prompts given by the machine.
