The Community Harmony Scarf by Clare Lawrence-Simms

“The Community Harmony Scarf is a creative project spreading hope and kindness around the world, serving as a springboard for conversations about mental health.

It was born in 2017 out of an emotional wellbeing project that I was running at Oadby Youth Centre.

The aim is to make a Scarf out of ribbons long enough to wrap around King Power Stadium, the home of Leicester City Football Club.

After seven and a half years the Scarf is over 500 metres long, more than two thirds of the way towards the target of 730 metres.

Every ribbon in the Scarf represents a person, everybody matters and everyone has something to contribute.

The Scarf tells a story of our community and is packed full of moments, stories and wisdom that have been shared as we offer support and hope to each other.

The Scarf forms an integral part of my work as a Wellness Coach.

Over the past couple of years I’ve been coming to terms with the realisation that I’m neurodivergent and finding ways to make this work in mainstream education.

This has equipped me with insights and tools that I’m now using to help families whose children are struggling in school because they’re demonstrating traits of neurodivergence whether diagnosed or not.”
